Gymnastics: The Sport of Flexibility
There are a lot of misconceptions that have surrounded gymnastics. Thankfully, after overcoming all of this, the sport has emerged as a thriving career option for all those athletes whose agility and flexibility are the key to their success.
Earlier, gymnastics was considered merely an athletic exercise or warm-up. However, there is more to it. The sport encompasses physical exercise and techniques that include strength, balance, coordination, tolerance, and flexibility. There are certain sets of movements every gymnast has to master, and for that, they train day and night.
The sport's history goes back to ancient Greeks, who employed circus techniques to train their body muscles. This muscle training and some artistic skills grew fully under the name - Gymnastics.
Today, people from all age groups, including children, young adults, and adults, compete in recreational and competitive gymnastics.
Competitive Levels
The professional gymnastics level begins at the Junior Olympics in the US, ranging from 1 to 10. Based on the difficulty, there are two levels, 1-5 and 6-10. Those who go up to 10 generally clear the Olympics level and are given better leagues to compete in.
The entire sport works on a scoring system between D and E. This is determined by subtracting the start value of each routine that the gymnast performs. It further depends upon the difficulty of the routines attempted by the gymnast. Once the set is performed, whether or not the gymnast fits composition standards is also examined. Each piece of equipment has various composition needs, and once all of them are met, the gymnast gets a perfect D.
Sounds interesting? Well, you can come and witness all of this by yourself by getting tickets.
