Dance Shows

Dance has always been considered a form of cultural expression and freedom. Every country and culture has dance forms that signify their heritage and history.

Dance in the US is no different. It is a representation of the various influences on the land and how immigration brought more diversity to the country.

The live dance shows and performances in various parts of the US are a perfect example of the art form that has evolved over the centuries. Watch the dancers live in action on the indoor and outdoor stages.

Modern Dancing

Modern dancing evolved during the late 1800s and early 1900s and is considered a result of the various social changes in the country. The main intent of introducing modern dance was to do away with the formal and strict rules of ballet dancing. Just about everything is a contract between modern dancing and ballet.

Ted Shawn, Loie Fuller, Isadora Duncan, and Ruth St. Denis are pioneers of modern dancing. Styles like Hip Hop, Freestyle, Fusion, and Lyrical come under modern dance form and have become prominent dance forms over time.

Why watch dance shows on the TV when you can enjoy the stage shows from the front?

Dance Forms Originated in the US

The land of the United States has been home to various dance forms. Both formal and informal dance forms originated in the country and spread to other parts of the world. We have Hip Hop, a street dance style that originated sometime in the 1970s. The studio version of hip hop is called new style, while the jazz version is termed jazz-funk.

Now, Jazz form has its roots in the African American vernacular dance from the late 1800s and mid-1900s. It requires a perfect body posture and involves various jumps and turns.

Furthermore, Swing Dance is a group of dances developed between 1920 and 1940 for jazz music. This couple's dance is fast-paced and has a lot of swinging, tossing, flipping, etc. Then we have Lindy Hop, another dance form with roots in African American dance. It is a combination of different styles and originated in the 1930s. It actually belongs to the Swing dance family.

Foxtrot is a couple's dance form that evolved in 1910 and became popular in the 1930s. Timing and smooth body movements are crucial for this romantic dance form. A sort-of contrasting dance form is Blues and Boogie Woogie, both again from the African American communities. Blues dance required Blues music, while Boogie Woogie had rock music.
